Animal rescue agencies throughout Alberta have been overwhelmed with cats and kittens that are in need of forever homes.
An emergency two-day adoption blitz was held by the Calgary Humane Society at the end of June in an attempt to decrease the number of cats without owners, but many more cats are in need of adopting.
Due to the deteriorating economy, people have been surrendering pets for whom they can no longer care, which has doubled the intake numbers for some animal shelters in Calgary.
Like us, our feline friends deserve to feel safe, loved, and at home. Whether you’re a young twenty-something in a small apartment or you’re looking for a loving pet for your kid, a cat will fill your home with lots of love, fluff, and life. And unlike other pets, cats are very low maintenance. They don’t need to be walked, washed, or muzzled. Cats settle into routines quickly which makes them great housemates. Plus, having a pet has shown to make people feel happier and more balanced, not to mention the reward of rescuing a shelter cat will fill your heart with so much love that it will nearly burst!
