is proposed for this coming

"Kindness Carnival Update" :)
(This is a long & boring ebook about one mom's 'maybe one day' idea.
The only value you'll find are secret pearls of wisdom...!)
A nearby church in the community, close and convenient to everyone. (I’m in the process of calling the 11 churches on my list to check into availability of space rental availability.)
WHAT: (Proposed Structure)
Kids set up their own special booth (of course Moms & Dads can help A LITTLE!) to display items that they’ve created/prepared over the months of the school year. (Note: Any proceeds collected would be handled by each individual family unit for their chosen charity).
WHEN: S̶u̶n̶d̶a̶y̶,̶ ̶M̶a̶y̶ ̶2̶8̶,̶ ̶2̶0̶1̶7̶ ̶(̶P̶r̶o̶p̶o̶s̶e̶d̶,̶ ̶R̶a̶i̶n̶ ̶o̶r̶ ̶S̶h̶i̶n̶e̶!̶)̶
UPDATE FEB 11/17: Due to work I've been doing on another project, the proposed date for this project is T.B.A.
The reasoning behind choosing this date for the
Kindness Carnival is the benefit of it occurring after May Long Weekend 2017 (Sat, Sun & Mon May 20, 21, 22), providing families enough time to finish packing up the items they wish to make available for fund raising.
This date could perhaps become known as a ‘Summer’s Almost Here Spring Cleaning Kick Off', where anything left over will already have been pre-sorted and boxed up for the
WSCR.ca / CFIS annual June Recycling Clean-up Event!
Check their website for more info on their Recycling event:
With the goal to have kids busy throughout the year to prepare for the carnival, they could start now to organize, declutter, create, craft, collect and compile ‘stuff’ (into a box labeled “Calgary Kindness Carnival” that they would then plan on making available at their booth to raise funds for their choice of charity.
The day could end off with a planned special family activity (new tradition: the “Family Board Meeting” at their fave restaurant!) to discuss the events of the day, and to plan the official Donation Drop Off to the designated charity (of course with the kids being the ones in charge of honourably handing over the cheque!).
SOME “STARTER” IDEAS OF WHAT TO BRING/DO
FOR YOUR DISPLAY BOOTH:
Food & Drinks
- Baked goodies
- Pre-made munchie mixes (home made or from groc bulk section, bundled up with crafty ribbons and bows!)
- Traditional Ball Game / Movie Food –
- Noah’s Nachos Booth!
- Peyton’s Peanuts Booth!
- Perry’s Popcorn Booth!
- Portia’s Pizza by the slice Booth!
- Hannah’s Hot dogs Booth!
- Lisa’s Lemonade Booth!
- Ivy’s Iced Tea Booth!
- Jen’s Juice Booth!
- Christine’s Coffee Booth!
- Taylor’s Tea Booth!
(Thinkn these snack-attack booths would be big sellers!)
Belongings (Gently Used Misc & Collectibles
(E.g.: Toys/Games/Jewelry/Skateboards, etc…)
Kids can start going through their room/closet/basement to find once-cherished possessions they no longer use, knowing the item(s) will be going to someone else who will take care of and enjoy them.
In return, children begin to understand that the money THEY raise will be given to other people who don’t have the things they do. They’ll find out that brand new things will be purchased for people and animals in need with the money they helped to make.
Kids can sort through and find clothes they no longer wear. Maybe give them their first-ever laundry lesson so they can have a hand in ensuring clothes are clean, dry (and maybe even ironed?? what a bonus!) for the Carnival Box :)
Jeans (Yes, always in a class of their own!)
- (T(w)eens could even get together and make their own “Jessie Jeans” Store. Bring a couple room dividers, a mirror (and maybe a sheet) for an easy change room, some parent supervision, and they’re in business.)
- Have multiple kitchen-table craft marathon sessions where kids mass-produce cool knick-knacks they make or otherwise compile to display for the purpose of raising funds at their booth!
Craft Ideas (Handmade or not):
MORE NOTES / BRAINSTORMING!
My plan is to document the progress on this idea, here on the blog (Li'l Legends page) if anyone wishes to tune in (or chime in with their ideas)! Updates will be labelled, "Kindness Carnival Update".
Perhaps the following venues may be interested in supplying space in return for split proceeds?
- Springbank Community Assoc?
- Glenbow Museum
Total Funds Raised: $ ____________________
